Cat Coven Limited Edition Print

Sometimes inspiration comes from funny places.
I was out taking a stroll in the woods around a sleepy Devon town when I happened across a strange sight. A large group of cats, in a clearing in the woods, just hanging out.
It stopped me dead in my tracks! What were these usually quite territorial creatures doing chilling in the spring sunshine, quietly observing my passing? And that’s when I thought - it’s a coven!
Witchcraft has always been a fascination of mine.
As a kid growing up on staples like Buffy, The Craft, Practical Magic, and a hundred other 80s and 90s pagan influences it’s pretty much ingrained into my psyche. So when this idea hit me I just knew I had to make a print out of it!
My process starts with hand drawing and referencing, progressing to layout and some detailing ideas in photoshop before I get to transferring the image to a block of lino and meticulously carving it away until the relief surface is revealed.
You can see some of the process of this on my instagram.
This limited edition of 100 was a labour of love, with three weeks of design and carving work to reach its completion. Printed on the highest quality archival, acid-free printmaking paper, it will last for years to come and hopefully make a great addition to any spooky home.
